On the day of Makar Sankranti, from sunrise to sunset, the environment is more conscious, that is, there is divine awareness in the environment, so those who are doing spiritual practice can take advantage of this consciousness. It is believed that when a father visits his son on this special day, his conflicts get resolved and positivity gets shared with happiness and prosperity. To celebrate the healthy relationship between father and son, despite differences, Makar Sankranti was given importance. Makar Sankranti StoryĪccording to Hindu mythology, on this special day Lord Surya goes to his son Lord Shani, at that time Lord Shani is representing Capricorn. Makar Sankranti is also celebrated by various names in different region in the country, Magh Bihu in Assam, Maghi in Punjab, Maghi Saaji in Himachal Pradesh, Maghi Sangrand or Uttarain (Uttarayana) in Jammu, Sakraat in Haryana, Sukarat in central India, Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Uttarayan in Gujarat, etc. On this day, farmers across India pay tribute to lord Sun, and wish for a good crop.
The festival signifies a change in season, as from this day the Sun begins its movement from Dakshinayana (South) to Uttarayana (North) hemisphere, marking the official end of winters.
